Biography
Drumsound consists of 2 members, andy and ben. Andy is the main producer /engineer and has been making drum and bass and building his studio since 1995 after attending a studio skills course at square centre studios in nottingham. The initial idea behind drumsound was for local dj’s/producers to join forces in order to progress quickly as one tight unit instead of slowly as individuals. The producers made the tunes which the dj’s played at the residency they held at a local club night called ‘technique’ (one of the biggest eclectic break beat nights in the midlands at the time).
As time progressed there tunes became renowned for tearing dancefloors apart and it wasn’t long before well established dj’s began to showed there support and wanted to release and cut the tunes they were making. This lead to collaborations with dj ratty and dj ascend (dread bass) who were regular visitors to watch them play. After releasing more tunes through tribe and with releases on several other larger labels on the cards it was time to think about starting their own label. ‘technique recordings’ was born……
Since its conception technique recordings, drumsound and partner bassline smith have gone from strength to strength utilising their knowledge and enthusiasm to build an imprint of global proportion. 2004, 2005 & 2006 were massive years for drumsound. 2005 saw the critically acclaimed debut artist album ‘nature of the beast’ from the drumsound & bassline smith collaboration, and a string of releases on renegade hardware, creative source, full cycle, v recordings, formation, cia and of course their own technique recordings and worldwide audio recordings.
In 2006, the momentum continued with remix projects delivered to dj hype’s ganja and their debut release for adam f & dj fresh’s breakbeat kaos imprint, called ‘killa dj’. By mid 2006 drumsound & bassline smith unleashed their 2nd album ‘ street technique’ on technique recordings which featured tracks from roni size, fresh, youngman mc, j majik & wickaman, friction & k tee, tali, phetsta & skyver & d jon, as technique moved from a well respected underground drum and bass label to one of the leading labels in the industry.
Fast forward to 2007 and drumsound & bassline smith have released monster anthems ‘skumbag rip’, ‘cold turkey’ & ‘harder, faster’ on technique recordings with massive support from headliners such as grooverider, hype, andy c, friction, roni size, mampi swift & radio 1’s zane lowe & annie mac….to name a few .
It seems there is no stopping drumsound, simon bassline smith and the technique recordings music empire.
